subject: Bash Scripting help.

Hello everybody.

I am a newbie Linux user and have no clue about regular expressions and
bash scripting and such, so I am turning to you for assistance. :)

This is what I would like to do for now:

Right a batch script that will test my IP and compare it to the one in the
nodelist segment I maintain. If it is different, I want it to update the
nodelist segment to the new IP if it has changed.

It will also have to convert the ip quad's ".'s" to "-'s".

Can sombody point me in the right direction? A small example would be
awesome. Once I have an example, I can adapt to my needs.

I find I learn better from examples than man pages. I hate man pages ... ;)

Robert
