The May 12 date was the seven-month anniversary of the USS Cole attack.
When that didn't work, bin Laden's second choice was that the attack
happen when Ariel Sharon was in DC, according to the 9/11 Commission.
The final September attack date was decided by others and transmitted
back to bin Laden.
