A) HP is now the number 1 pc seller & Dell is number2 so MS is going to
have a hard time (esp post anti-trust action (in both US & EU)) playing
hard ball with either or both.

B) MS have screwed the pooch with vista. They should continue flogging XP
(i.e. fork the windows base) for at least some years. In the UK (&
seemingly the US DoT) the move to Vista probably ain't ever going to
happen. 5 Years minimum. & In that time linux will have improved.

Now if the DoT or the NHS ordered a load of boxes preloaded with Novell
Linux then I am sure that HP & Dell would compete for the business.

I do think a tipping point is near. Especially once you adopt something
like the Google Apps (as the US DoT are mulling) coz then you need a solid
hardware manager & a nice window manager for your browser.

At the moment in terms of managing the most h/w....that goes to linux &
not Vista.
