Continuing my ongoing efforts to bankrupt Radio Shack by taking undue
advantage of their return policy...
Just kidding.
Maybe.
Anyway, the Pro-2040 went back today. Way too many image problems. And, no,
I don't mean it looked dinky. :-) Actually, the scan speed was pretty good,
the data skip worked most of the time, and the numbers on the keypad were
laid out pretty nicely, but the other keys just weren't easy for me to find,
especially while trying to keep my eyes on the road. That, and the fact that
the images came in clearer than the real frequencies, made me decide to keep
looking.
Latest on the chopping block is the Pro-2035. This clear-out special boasts
1000 channels, sound squelch, auto store, coverage down to 25 MHz (finally,
CB reception!), etc.
I've played with it an hour and I've already got complaints about it, of
course. Auto store works as advertised, and won't store on top of a
previously programmed channel, but won't think twice about saving the same
frequency as has already been programmed... into all 100 channels in that
bank. Good sound squelch almost makes up for the lack of search lockouts,
but not quite.
Locking out the 80 or so channels in a bank that you don't need takes
forever. One of the scanners I looked at recently would automatically lock
out channels that didn't have a frequency scanned into them. Naturally, I
can't remember which one it was.
Rotary tuner is actually more useful than I would have thought.
So far, I've mainly spent my time entering frequencies (manually and with
auto store), moving channels around, and listening to CB. Anybody who's had
one of these for a while know any nice features that I'm probably
erlooking?
