The original date bin Laden wanted the attack was May 12, and "512"
doesn't ring much of a bell.  And for what it might be worth, May 12,
2001 was a Saturday.  They weren't ready to go then, nor were they ready
in June or July.  I don't remember if the investigation ever figured out
who selected the final date or the reason for it, but I think it was
made at a level close to the hijackers because someone was sent back to
bin Laden to give him the date face-to-face.
