EH>I'm toying with that subject at the moment. Something has to be
EH>done about the radiant leakage of collected heat! I'm losing a LOT
EH>of stored heat when the sun goes down. Water that will fry your butt
EH>at 4 PM is too cool to bathe in by 8 PM, (Local sundown) That's
EH>rediculous! Besides which, getting the HOT water to come DOWN off the
EH>roof to the storage tank is a major pain. All my really HOT water
EH>goes back UP there.
EH>OK, where ya gonna KEEP this water? Very pertenent question!
My solar collectors are two 25 gallon tanks with a curved mirror
behind each tank and an air tight box around each assembly. The
boxes are black on the bottom half and clear on the top half.
The municipal water supply is fed into the first tank. The first
tank feeds the second tank and the second tank feeds the gas water
heater in the garage.
The pipes are insulated from the first tank, on through to the
heavily insulated gas heater tank (40 gallons).
We almost never run out of hot water; but, we notice when it's been
overcast for several concurent days.
Normally, the water is so hot that the gas heater doesn't come on.
It's more of a backup source.
The water actually gets hotter if we use a lot of it!
TTYL.
