  I have an old Radio Shack Model 100 laptop sitting here, gathering dust... 
the modem port can go 9600, and runs on 4 AA batteries or a 6v supply.
 
  I also have a floppy drive for it - it also goes thru the serial port, but 
you should still be able to "buffer" msgs. for later storage on the floppy.
 
  Make me an offer. :-)
