TO: all!
I am looking for two things, not just one. The answer can only come from
someone that isn't so much of a know-it-all GEEK as they are in looking at
the question and the problem it poses and NOT go I KNOW, I KNOW like a kid
who the answer to teachers question. These kind of PAT answers are just that
and I would like a real answer. Now that everyones been insulted, here's the
problem.
First, a string to force a modem, when in answer or Host mode to answer in
CALL-WAITING.
On answering the line, the modem must:
ANSWER, initiate a hook-flash, dial the code to cancel call-waiting, pause (
NOT Wait! ) and then answer the line. CANCEL CALL-WAITING will initiate and
revert back to the original call. In this case, since it is an incoming call
and not outgoing, the modem that called will still be waiting silently.
This doesn't seem like a big problem to most because the PAT answer is coming
from the geeks in the audience that all say the same thing.
A: You have to make the call first and go *70 ( or 1170 ) or B: Why don't you
JUST GET ANOTHER LINE? ( Well DuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuH! )
These aren't real answers, more like a question of my common sense
As I see it, the problem isn't being addressed because *70 is there. What
then do you do if you're not makeing the call or traveling? If you can put in
a string to shut it off ( CALL-WAITING ) on an outgoing call, why can't
someone come up with a useful string to cancel in on an incoming? This would
be very handy to have for FAXES as well as VOICE MAIL.
I mean, this is REAL LAZY when one answer fits all.
CALL-WAITING as I stated above, when initiated brings you right back to your
dial tone with a small pause for the stuttered tone or your call, again with
the modem that called waiting silently.
Well, BRAINIACS, anyone feel they're up to this?

John,
Man, your message burned my tender ears! It made me think
of you as a rude person. Of course, you probably are not really
rude, and I am not saying that you are .. only that your message was
a little, er .. strong.
If you can find the command that your modem takes to make it
hook-flash (my USR Courier doesn't have that sort of command listed
in its manual) then here is how to get the rest done.
In your host program, locate the line that says:
{send ATA|}
That is the step that causes your modem to ANSWER.
After that line, install these macro steps and you will have
your wish.
{send "command to hook flash"} ;you have to look this up,
; if your modem doesn't have
; a hook-flash command, then
; I am stuck and can't
; answer your question.
{send ATDT *70|} ;dial cancel call-wait
{paus 2} ;wait a couple seconds
{send "command to hook-flash"} ;return to waiting modem

I tried this on ordata.com. It gives all of the information no matter single
