I miss pagers. As an on-call IT person, back in the old days, people paged
you, gave you a telephone number to call on, and you spoke to someone. You
were both engaged in the process, and it filtered out a lot of unnecessary
after-hours "urgencies".

Nowadays, anyone can email you at all hours of the day or night and expect
that some sort of game-clock starts as soon as they hit "send". Regardless
of whether or not their request is valid, sent to the right person, able to
be accomodated, reasonable, &tc.

Pagers needed pay phones, though. Part of the beauty of pagers was being
able to be out and about with a pager and a handful of dimes.

Cheers,
