I swear by my Blackberry - it's my camera, music player, and having twitter, poker, and a web browser is handy. I've mentioned before here that the Smartphone Cult isn't the best thing for business. Between after-hours interruptions for routine requests, meeting distractions (ever been to a meeting where half the participants are texting/emailing?) and general ineffectiveness of email as a communications medium, I'd prefer people call me. Any time, day or night. If you call me, you're investing the time to make the call. You're less apt to make a frivolous request when you make it in person or by telephone. And, I can get all the information I need to proceed with your request without sending followup emails back-forth. The "1100 Club" started 2 years ago - people who ditched their smart phones for a basic voice SMS phone. The club is named after the Nokia 1100, one of the most popular phones out there (200 million units and counting!) I'd love to quit my smart phone, but with my customers still emailing, it's a little like the sheep voting for vegetarianism. :) http://conversations.nokia.com/2008/09/03/announcing-the-1100-club-aka-ditch-your-smartphone-go-dumb/ Cheers, --kW kurt weiske | kweiske at realitycheckbbs dot org realitycheckBBS | http://realitycheckbbs.org ...
