Hi Diane:
I was on the net the other day and found directions for a sling. Let me see
if I can find them for you.
I had them in an open document in back of the BBS board, so have copy and
pasted them below: Hope this works.

Tried to send this as an attachment, didn't work. Here they are:
BABY SLING INSTRUCTIONS
MATERIALS
Strong fabric (cotton; flannel is exceptional for cold winters) 32"x82"
Quilt batting, crib size, seamless 45"x60"
Two - 2 1/2" steel rings (in macrame craft sections of stores)
Seamstress chalk or marking pencil
DIRECTIONS:
1. Cut the fabric out to size. Cut the batting into two pieces of
15"x48" each, and one piece that is 28"x28".
2. Roll the 15x48 pieces of batting into tubes of 2 1/2" in
diameter by 48" long. Tack each end and the center.
3. Lay fabric piece on ironing board with right side down. Iron
1/2" seam on both lengthwise sides. Fold over 3" hem on both lengthwise
sides and press.
4. Move to sewing table (or floor) and mark the wrong side of the
fabric with chalk along the inside edge of the 3" hem. This will help
with
matching when sewn later.
5. Measure 12" from one crosswise end of fabric and insert the
batting tube into the 3" hem. Match edge of hem with chalk line. Pin
in place
and sew entire length twice. Repeat for other side.
6. Firmly anchor the batting by sewing 2-3 times, 1" from each end
of the batting. Batting will be encased in hem 12" from one end and 22"
from the other end.
STRAP:
7. Return to table/floor and lay fabric right side up. Working
with one 12" end at a time, measure and mark the center. Accordian-fold
the
fabric: center line out 3" and fold back to center line; next two folds
will be 1 1/2" out and back in to center line. Fold for about a 7 1/2"
length. Secure with pins and then tack in place. Remove pins. Take
the bottom 3" fold and fold over the 1 1/2" folds to the center line.
8. Trim inside (folds) of fabric by 1/2" to reduce bulk. Fold
outer edge of fabric inward and tuck in to make a clean edge. Pin.
9. Stitch 6-7 evenly-spaced rows down the length of the strap for 7
1/2". Sew neatly, this will be seen. Strap should measure about 2
1/2-3" x 7 1/2"
SHOULDER CUSHION:
10. Fold remaining piece of batting in half (14x28), and then in
half again (7x28). Fold the 28" length into thirds and tack to hold in
place.
11. Fold the 22" side of sling to insert through steel rings. Slide
rings to batting.
12. Lay sling on table/floor right side down. Place folded batting
centered and 7" from the edge. Fold top edge down over batting, then
fold the sides one at a time. Make sure it's smooth and snug.
13. Sew a rectangle around the cushion about 1 1/2" from each edge.
Slip-stitch the open end.
14. Open sling and smooth out wrinkles. Fold the cushion to inside,
centered and parallel. Pin in place. Stitch over original stitching on
cushion.
TO USE:
The strap fits into the rings and is adjustable to your comfort.

Have fun:
