Being caged and no personal interaction is very difficult for an animal. They don't know why they are caged or why people ignore them, except at feeding time. I always feel so sorry for them. While I have adopted two from the shelter, each time I was there I wanted to take all the animals home with me. But that was impossible for many reasons. And with older animals they have known a home and love and all that. Strays and older animals make better pets since they know what its like to lose a home and then get one again.
