subject: Suggestion for Future Consideration

Hi Victor,
VL> What I would find very useful would be the addition of
VL> at least an "and/or" option to limit or expand the search.
 VL> For instance,
VL> suppose I want a listing of all the Warcraft files in
VL> the file collection. Some descriptions have it as "War
VL> Craft" and others as "Warcraft." It'd be nice to be
VL> able to search for "Warcraft" and "War Craft."
I think you may need to look a bit closer at the supplied Maximus Message and
File searching capabilities, the "and/or" option certainly is there, and it
can be stacked in a number of ways. IMHO, the real problem is that many users
(and some sysops) simply do not understand how these types of searches really
work and as a result they end up with logically invalid searches that will
NEVER find what they are looking for...
VL> wasn't the best example, but it's the best I could come
VL> up with right now. I know that I've had users ask if
VL> it was possible to search for two things at one time.
VL> The answer is "no," unless I've missed something real
 VL> obvious.
I think perhaps you may have, the supplied Maximus search can actually have
multiple searches being performed at once, provided you drive the search
engine correctly (and I even stuff it up at times...).
VL> I hope that explains what I mean a little
VL> better. It wasn't meant as a criticism, but only as a
VL> suggestion for a possible enhancement. I know I would
VL> really appreciate it! 8-) BTW, I wonder if it could
VL> be done in MEX. I wouldn't doubt it.
Perhaps the way many people could be helped here is by providing a customised
version of the search that performs a search for xxx OR yyy, it sounds like
this option is one of the most likely to be required. This should only
require a little MEX coding to arrange.
I hope this helps...........pk.
