Bendigo, central Victoria in SE Australia.  Nearest known working DMR repeater
is around 150km away on the far side of Melbourne (I have used it), a couple
are closer, but I haven't been able to confirm them as working.  None are on my
side of the Great Dividing Range that cuts us off from Melbourne on VHF/UHF.

And your solution sounds rather expensive, anything with the big "M" on it
isn't cheap, and the MMDVM is a nother couple hundred on top, though I am
interested in that type of setup.  Other things still have priority though.
