WV>Do not use the exe, but the file GENERATED by the exe (See below)
HS> I have compiled correctly with -pg and no
HS> -fomit-frame-pointer. (they're incompatible).
WV>It is a year ago, so this is becoming a bit vague to me already. I used
WV>gprof on a RS/6000 AIX machine for profiling. I remember having problems
WV>similar to you. The way I got it to work is to provide the -pg option
WV>when compiling AND when linking (I used a makefile since it was a multi
WV>module project). Then, after you have runned the program as usual and
WV>ended it NORMALLY a new file has been created in the directory where you
WV>run the program. This file should be given as input to the gprof
WV>utility. I used I/O redirection to write the results to a new file
WV>(gprof generated_prof_file_name >results.txt). This works, but I noticed
WV>later that under SCO unix the report was in a different format. The way
WV>to get to the results was however the same.
I tried running
"gprof gmon.out >file.txt" and it reported
"c:/gcc/bin: gprof: Bad format".
GMON.OUT is the generated file. There doesn't appear to be any documentation
on gprof for some strange reason. I've looked everywhere in the "info"
program and i can't find a gprof node.
Any suggestions?
Bye for now..
