Jablonski's "Flying Fortress" is about to most comprehensive
that I have seen on the B-17.

I never saw one of the Cheyenne tail gun modifications.
301st made a couple of conversions of tail guns with 20 mm.

Bombs from 1000 to 4000 pounds could be carried under
each wing. I never carried externals. Gas load was greatly
decreased. I loaned my Bombardier's Information File
to EAA to copy. Hope to get it back soon ?

5th Wing of 15th AF consisted of 2nd, 97th, 99th, 301st,
463rd and 483rd. The rest of 15 (15 groups) were B-24s.
The news media preferred the billets in England rather
than the squalor and tents of Southeastern Italy and
Africa. We did our part. The 301st had been in 8th, then
12th and finally 15th Air Force. Probaly most veteran
B-17 unit in Europe.
