<< Dean,
It is my understanding that one important differance in the NEW process is
the
pellets are made from preformed lead balls, which may be pre-sorted for size
prior
to entering the pelletmaking operation versus the normal lead-wire process,
which
must cut to the same length with no control over minor diamter variations
that
have significant effect on slug volume.

Your description of the old lead-wire process is correct. It is my
understanding that the critical measurement for the new machines is the
eight
of the lead being fed into the process not the shape. The machine achieves
precision in forming the same shape precisely with the exact same weight
measure of lead and forms the pellet much like a modern plastic extrusion
machine. Now, also understand I am getting this information second hand.
Crosman is very secretive about the new machinery process and it is only from
retired employees that I am getting any info at all. However, one of those
employees also designed, tested, and put into production the Premier pellet,
so the source is pretty good. I will get more specific details on the
rocess
when I research a little more for an upcoming article on the Premier.
By the way if you have any questions for the inventor of the Premier let me
know and I will strive to get the answers.
