JV> At work we have a Novell 3.12 server with Cheyenne Arcserve and at
JV> backup time he/she politely asks the server to close the bindery and
JV> asks to open it again when done. This seems to release all files (except
JV> those in use by a few automatic work stations) for backup.
Actually, Arcserve and virtually every other backup program that is Netware
aware issue a call to Netware that closes the bindery. Closing the bindery
prevents folks from logging into the server; existing folks are not affected
any way.
After closing the bindery, the backup program copies the files that make up
the bindery to tape, then issue an open bindery command to allow folks to log
into the server again.
This works for the bindery only, not any open file.
