That's the way I felt, Leah, before I discovered this u/l problem!
Leah, please don't be offended, but I'm going to "paste" my reply to Fred
Hall, the only other person to respond. I'm not a good "typer", and my
fingers are tired. B:)) I hope that between the two of you (three of
us?) we can get my program working properly!!!
Hi Fred,
Thanks for responding, and since you have, I'll hold off on TFW and give
this QMPRO for Windows one more try! I appreciate your offer to help.
I'm using a Hayes Ultra 14400 internal FAX/modem (fax not activated), in
a Pentium 75Mhz computer. The init. string in the modem dialog box says
ATZ^M. Seems kind of short to me, based on some of the strings I've seen
other people post for other modems. But, as I'm obviously NOT a modem
whiz (started using one about a month or so ago), I don't know if that's
causing my problem and haven't attempted to change anything?!
A friend told me to check the NVRam with the AT&V command, which I did:
at&v

Doesn't mean much to me. The "modem manual" that came with this box is
about 6 pages in the Users Manual. Do you understand it?
I discovered that my QMPFW program won't upload anything but small QWK
packet replies a couple weeks ago, when I tried to u/l a 465,000 byte
file to a BBS. The u/l started, and everything looked fine, until I got
the "CRAAASH!" WAV sound.
It's not a problem with the BBS, because the same thing happens on every
BBS I've tried. It isn't a problem with my computer, because I've u/led
successfully with ProComm DOS, Telix For Windows 1.10, and PowerAccess!
What really (Oh, just remembered, I have a 16550A chip) puzzles me is
that the u/l doesn't crash at the same place all the time, and there is
no warning whatsoever!!! It just stops transmitting where ever (35,000,
132,000, 257,000, etc. bytes) it feels like it!, and I'm left staring at
the BBS screen that says the transfer was aborted!!!
One other problem that I just noticed, when I logged on recently to a
new BBS. Don't know if it relates to the above, but when I get to the
"What is your first name" screen, this is where my name is to be typed:
(084822C7ECB09ECC776298A9F5F13A1D) Nope, I'm not joking! I copied it
exactly as it appears! The sysop says he's never seen this before, and
it must be my modem/comm program sending an extra string of commands,
but he doesn't know what, or why, or how to fix it!
Well, Fred, you probably regret responding, after reading all of this,
but I don't know how to differentiate between too much and not enough
info, when trying to solve a major disfunction with a comm program.
If you're still game, I'll appreciate all the help you can give me. I
really like this QMPFW program, but I need to be able to u/l for my
small business, as well as having fun, so if I can't correct it, I'm
going to have to go to another program that I don't like as well!
Thanks,
Bob
Thanks for your offer to help, Leah!
