Ahhh. I do. Back in the 1880s, 'association football' as it was known
then, was too long to say in one breath, so the word 'association' was
re-arranged to 'soccer' (don't ask me how they came to that arrangement).

Americans being Americans wanting to correct badly spelled British English
already had a game called football and so they refused to make the
association with the way the Brits spelled it.

When I looked up the etymology of the word 'socker', I got the above info
and drew some of my own conclusions from it.
