Seems to me I'd head straight for the head select pin on the edge connector. IIRC it's pin-32 which selects the upper head-1 when low and the lower head-0 (what we want) when pulled high. Maybe a little piece of masking tape over that pin would do it. Make sure the drive has a termination pack so the pin stays high and not simply floating. It should work once the drive select and ready jumpers are in the correct configuration for the synth's controller protocol. I can't think of anything else unless the drive was non-standard.
