Hello again Mark. Hopefully you got my previous message. The promise of
the Holy Ghost is, in fact, for all. However, if any man be given the gift
of "language," it will be a "real" language, not an "unknown" language of
unintelligible babble.
I was in a church one day, and heard a woman go on for 15 minutes uttering:
Sha da da da da da da da da, Ahh, Sha da da da da da da da, Ahh, Sha da da
da da da da da, etc. She was emotional and hysterical. When she finally
ceased, the pastor said: "Thus saith the Lord, If thou wilt hearken unto
me, I will open up a window of heaven and pour out a blessing, etc. How, do
you think he got all that out of "Sha da da da da da da, etc.?
On Pentecost, all 120 spoke Hebrew. A miracle in itself, being as they were
poor Galileans who were not educated in the Hebrew language. They spoke
Aramaic only. If you believe that they all spoke 120 different languages,
and the 15 nations who stood round about had to scatter to find the one that
they understood, you are wrong. It was one language, Hebrew, it was
translated into the language of the beholder as it entered into their ears.
It was as much a miracle of hearing as it was speaking.
Nowhere in scripture will you find the word unknown, as in "unknown tongue."
The word "unknown" is in italics, and therefore, added by the translators.
The literal translation of Acts: 2:4 is:
"And they were all filled with Holy Spirit; and began to speak in a
language foreign to them, as the Spirit endowed them with clear
expression."ÿ
The Spirit of YaHshua does not destroy our sensibilities or divest us of
control over our actions and our speech; quite the contrary. Peter pointed
out that the prophets of YaHVaH spoke as they were moved by the Holy Ghost
(II Peter 1:21) and this was not autonomic involution, a condition in
evidence in the present deceptive counterfeiting of Pentecost. Paul asked
for prayer to the end that he would be able to speak forcefully and
accurately in order to make the deep truths of the Gospel plain to his
hearers:
"And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open
my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel."
(Eph. 6:19.)
Paul demonstrates again and again, throughout the New Testament, how
wonderfully his request was granted:
"But as it is written [in IsaYah 64:4], Eye hath not seen, nor ear
heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things
YaHVaH hath prepared for them that love him. But YaHshua hath
revealed them unto us by His Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all
things, yea, the deep things of YaHVaH...Now we have received, not
the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of YaHVaH; that
we might know the things that are freely given to us of YaHVaH.
Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom
teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual
things with spiritual." (I Cor. 2:9-13.)
In the Book of Acts it is shown that on more than one occasion, when
conversions took place and the gift of the Holy Spirit was manifested by the
ability to speak in the Hebrew tongue, the result was an earnest desire to
make a diligent study of the Word of the Almighty. This was so when
Cornelius was converted (Acts 10:48) and more specifically stated when Paul
was at Ephesus and the disciples of John the Baptist became disciples.
"And he [Paul] went into the synagogue, and spake boldly for the
space of three months, disputing and persuading the things
concerning the kingdom of YaHshua. But when divers were hardened,
and believed not, but spake evil of that way [the believers way]
before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the
disciples, disputing daily in the school of one Tyrannus. And
this continued by the space of two years; so that all they which
dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Sovereign YaHshua, both
Judahites and Greeks." (Acts 19:8-10.)
It is imperative that every believer recognize the whole intent of the
Pentecostal experience of the early church. As the Divine Instructor, the
Holy Spirit had brought new light to bear upon the Old Testament Scriptures
in conformity with the finished work of YaHshua the MessYaH as Redeemer and
Savior. Because the Church at Corinth was losing sight of this initial and
most essential factor, Paul found it necessary to address them specifically
on the issues involved.
Thanks for reading Mark. YaHshua's blessings upon you.
