mine has a pinion (star shaped cog)  that engages a with a sector (partial
cog) on the side of the door so that it turns as the door opens, the back
and axle of the pinion are "lubriicated" with "special" grease.

there's no adjustemnt,

As I said it's 'only' a sanyo, internally it's got fibreglass circuit boards so
it's not absolute junk, but the PSU section has been getting a little tired
lately  (it's about 15 year's old) and it won't play tapes off mains power
anymore.

earlier I had a look at the PSU but it was a bit confusing...
