-> I used to be catholic. I feel much better! Actually I was only used -> to be catholic in 'word'. I never bought the mumbo jumbo. WC> I was Protestant until age 8. WC> Asked about the "burning bush" with no reasoned answer I WC> thought this is BS. Asking questions and not getting answers we are comfortable with (willing to swallow that is)- is the primary reason we reject that belief. We see how they take metaphor literally and we don't. Ross's recent stir the pot post (that is precisely what it was and as expected he succeeded in more ways than one)- had me remember there's a thorny fine line between 'belief' and 'know'. The words get mixed up a lot on purpose. We are led by control freaks to THINK we believe what they tell us so to seek and get ahold of our loyalty to them and our money- but often times we only KNOW what we are told. Belief is much more complicated. I suspect a lot of people 'go to church' just because it's supposed to 'look good'. All that lying to oneself can take a serious toll on one's health, and as if their god didn't notice.. You've read of folks who say they believe in a God but not religion? They're the true theists. I like the phrase someone posted here: "Faith is spiritualism, religion is what you pay for." (IIRC). WC> That and the Protestant minister at that church was the best known WC> womanizer in town despite being married. You know what 'they' will say don't you? "not all clergy are frauds" any more than all doctors/lawyers are. BUT that dosen't excuse assholes either. Not one bit. In Abby today a woman wrote how she had to submit an eulogy to the priest for approval. (For her mother's funeral mass). What did the asshole do? He used it in his sermon or whatever it was prior to her own speech, word for word! Can you imagine that? She should write a letter to him explaining how what he did hurt her and send a copy to the Bishop. OH nothing will get done about it you know. An apology maybe but If I had been her I would have stood right on up and said, excuse me but you are reading my eulogy! She didn't want to make a scene though which plays well in the hand of the powers that be. She rationalized her mother would not have liked that. BUT her other was dead. She wouldn't know. I loathe how assholes get away with what they do knowing and encouraging the attitudes of their sheep. cindy --- PPoint 3.01* Origin: Up a palm tree (1:3613/1275.13) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 5030/786 @PATH: 3613/1275 123/500 106/2000 633/267 |
