Mulling over George Pope to Steve Asher 25 Nov 2005

SA> did Jeremiah the prophet, in Jeremiah 31:31-32 record the Lord as
SA> saying... "Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will
SA> make a new covenant with the house of Isael, and with the
SA> house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made
SA> with their fathers in the day that I took them out of the
SA> land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was
SA> an husband unto them, saith the Lord."

SA> SA> What do you think that new covenant might be? Who do you think
SA> SA> the mediator of the new covenant might be?

GP> Better to translate that as a "renewed covenant" because
"new"
GP> implies the old gets done away, and that's impossible with a
 GP> COVENANT(much different than a CONTRACT!)

Why would it be "better to translate that", when the prophecy clearly
refers to a new covenant ... not according to the covenant that ...

I.e. new ... not the old one ... a new one ... a better one ...
Let it sink in ... it is easy, if you truly do possess the ability
to read and understand scripture that you claim in another echo.

I very much doubt it, though you do have a talent for weaseling!

Weasel out of this: :)

Jeremiah 31: 31 -> "Behold the days come, says Jehovah, that I will
cut a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of
Judah, not according to the covenant that I cut with their fathers
in the day I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of
Egypt [...] (Hendrickson Hebrew Greek English Interlinear Bible)

You can weasel, & "translate" it to "mean" whatever
you want, but it
will be in vain.

The new covenant has replaced the old covenant - full stop.

Cheers, Steve..
