Are you sure it wasn't the power-saving features?  Y'know -- APM and all that
kinda thing?  My monitor turns itself off after a short period of inactivity,
so why shouldn't anyone else's, eh?
Besides, the program might have dropped one of the sync lines (or whatever
the power-saving programs do) -- which would have made the monitor turn off,
assuming that it was one of those EnergyStar jobbies...
