I believe it is still there. As long as it is not disturbed it is alright.
So as long as they keep the Jacket painted it would not rust through and
llow
the old asbestos to be disturbed. As a side Note when the San Diego Railroad
Museum did the SP 2353 several years back they had the engine pulled into
Mexico and had a Mexcian Asbestos Contractor do the job. Saved us quite a few
dollars. But we had the advantage of our Museum Facility being only 30
inutes
away from the Mexican Border. And on the old SDA&E tracks they cross over
into Mexico at Tecate.
And our Campo, Califronia to Tecate, Mexico day trip is one of the few where
you can cross the border on a Train I am told.
