From: "Richard Bell" Subject: RE: [drakelist] Amateur Radio is second class "Richard Bell" made an utterence to the drakelist gang ---------------------------------------------------------------------- I recall getting as many as 100+ emails daily, that were nothing but spam. That still left about as many "real" email messages to review. You try reading several hundred email messages a day, gets old quick especially if you notice many with exactly the same subject line (spam for sure!). Email can be a valuable tool, at times, but I really think you are better served writing a letter. Notice I said writing and not copying some form letter. Even a note jotted on paper will wind up on someone's desk. If you must email, keep it short and to the point. State your position in the very first sentence. Don't accuse or flame but do back up your position with some facts. Long emails, and letters for that matter, tend to get tossed or ignored. Do sign your document with your name and include your phone number as well as your mailing address. Please don't send anonymous mail. That will surely go no where. Email is particularly useful when a matter is up for review or a vote. The officials will ask about the number of calls or emails supporting or opposing a given issue. If anyone wants to go offline and discuss this subject, I will be glad to do it. I don't want to take up the bandwidth even though it is important we make known the threat to our hobby. -----Original Message----- From: Thom R. Can you shed some light on the effectiveness of email to elected officials? My two senators in Maryland basically ignore it, with canned autoresponders that give you the impression that they are truly "Stealh Senators". 73 Thom-k3hrn www.zerobeat.net Home of QRP Web Ring, Drakelist home page, Free Classified Ads for amateur radio, QRP IRC channel www.tlchost.net/ Web Hosting as low as 3.49/month ---------------------------------------------------------------------- On Behalf of "Richard Bell" Submissions: drakelist{at}www.zerobeat.net Unsubscribe: majordomo{at}www.zerobeat.net - unsubscribe drakelist in body Hopelessly Lost: majordomo{at}www.zerobeat.net - help in body of message Zerobeat Web Page: http://www.zerobeat.net Brought to you courtesy of TLCHost.net http://www.tlchost.net/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---* Origin: The Barter Board Internet Gatway (1:261/1551) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 5030/786 @PATH: 261/1551 105/1 261/1352 38 123/500 106/2000 633/267 |
