GP>And that's not the 11th, but the first & second commandment, according
GP>to Jesus' words!
"Come, follow me." What exactly did Jesus mean by those words?
>GP>He wasn't addressing murderers, adulterers, etc., but perhaps
>GP>FORMER all those. . .
>LL>Paul addressed EVERYONE, especially sinners.
GP>Not in every speech -- he sometimes made the clear point that he was
GP>addressing those who had already sincerely repented ("...for that is
GP>what you ONCE WERE...")
Of course Paul addressed different audiences, depending where
he was. But the fact remains that Paul addressed EVERYONE, Jew
and non-Jew alike.
>LL>Paul addressed Jews, Christians, Greeks, Romans, atheists, you name
>LL>it.
GP>Not always, for instance, when he specifically says, "and this is the
GP>teaching for all the churches.." he's obviously only referring to those
GP>who are regenerated members of the new covenant. . .
Sometimes Paul addressed specific audiences. Other times Paul addressed
general audiences. Remember, Paul was a world traveller. :)
GP>He certainly was speaking to all in offering the promise of salvation,
GP>but he never contradicted Jesus' words ("for many are called, but few
GP>are chosen") so when he preached to the membership it was different than
GP>the general call for newcomers!
It is more a hope of salvation, rather than a promise of salvation.
>LL>Who did Jesus cite as His authority? What rabbi, or rabbinical school
>LL>of thought? Or did He make everything up, all on His own?
GP>He had clearly received the prevalent oral traditions (eg. in giving a
GP>blessing of God before breaking bread)
Answer the question. Who did Jesus cite as His authority? Do you know?
GP>And he, like Paul, was a Pharisee, according to the traditions of
GP>Gamaliel. . .
Jesus was not a Pharisee. Remember, it was the Pharisees who wanted the
Great Sanhedrin to try Jesus on charges that could result in the death
penalty. And remember it was the Sadducees who ran the Great Sanhedrin.
Has it ever occurred to you that the Great Sanhedrin *acquitted* Jesus,
choosing not to condemn an innocent man? Has it ever occurred to you
that the Jews did not kill Christ?
