I am convinced, Earl, that your problems can be fixed by switching to a
more reliable BBS.  I have forwarded your request to Mark Lewis, a
long-time SysOp of a BBS that I think can satisfy your needs.  I simply
telnet to bbs.sursum-corda.com when I want to go there.

Alternatively, you could do as I do and set up a point.
