I don't say any of this cannot or will not happen as you describe, but
this has the USA as the instigator, with other nations joining in. As
I understand Ezekiel 38, it will be Iran (aka Persia), Russia, Libya
etc who instigate an attack on Israel, and resulting in the destruction
of the invaders. This destruction may well be as a result of US nuclear
weapons, but they aren't necessary ... plagues can have the desired
effect, with Israel kept busy locating & marking the bodies & body
parts of the invaders, to cleanse the land. (Bury them at Hamongog)

Personally, I suspect that Antichrist will be revealed about the time
of the Ezekiel invasion of Israel, & will present himself as "Moshiach"
to the Jews, with the connivance of the "False Prophet", and set about
faking the Millennial reign of Christ, perhaps by claiming that Ezekiel
38 was Armageddon, and that he is establishing a new era of "peace" on
earth. Since most of the invaders of Israel are from Islamic nations,
it is possible that Antichrist will seek to destroy the remaining
Muslims, who Satan will have used as "useful fools" in his attempt
to undermine the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and to place the world under
his counterfeit legal & religious system ... Sanhedrin gains oversight
over gentiles - establishes noahide courts to enforce noahide laws;
Jews rebuild Temple on Temple Mount, which should be free of Islamic
mosques etc.

It still is, though it hasn't been repeated here for a few years. :(
One of the few series that I go out of my way to keep watching.

DARPA? I'm just looking at the DHARMA Iniative entry on Wikipedia;
shades of the Torchwood Institute in Doctor Who? :)

We don't have long to wait, but then again there was quite a lot of
"chatter" relating to Iran last year, that did not result in it either
attacking Israel, or being attacked by the USA/Britain etc.
