-> I am going to post this to get peoples opinions, thought I am not sure this -> will be a non biased group ( for obvious reasons ) or if I can truly convey -> my thoughts on this. Here it is.... -> I have a person who lives somewhere in our neighborhood. He is a paraplegic. -> He seems to only be able to travel by wheelchair, mostly. Of course this is -> sad, but here is my problem. -> He has a small black lab. This lab is on the small side to begin with. She is -> also, if you saw her, you would say she is undernourished. Her ribs stick out -> pitifully. This person wheels along in the wheelchair. He does not use his -> efforts, but hookds this lab up to a leash and has her pull him all over -> town. If he goes shopping or to the restuarant up the road, or anywhere, this -> little lab is pulling him. Now mind you, she does not look unhappy. He has a -> wheelchair that looks rather lightweight ( You probably know the kind I mean, -> not the standard hospital wheelchair, but a slimlined version, with large -> thin wheels ). What bothers me, is this. No matter what the weather he has -> that dog pulling him like a pack of sled dogs would. We had a real hot -> summer up here in Northeast this year and she pulled him in these hot humid -> temperatures, looking like she was about to keel over. Last winter I almost -> jumped out of the car, but restrained myself as he was having her pulling him -> over the heavily snow covered sidewalk. When she got him to the corner, he -> was whipping her with the leash to get him pulled through the drift that had -> built up there. I felt so sorry for this poor thing as she was being whipped -> and struggling to pull this 200+ lb guy through the snow. -> My problem is that I feel sorry for this man and his situation. But this dog -> is being forced to do things, I personally have a problem with. She is not a -> horse! On the other hand, she looks tired and undernourished, but not -> unhappy. I'd like some opinions, what would you guys do. I almost want to -> report him, but maybe I should just mind my own business. Yet I see Red every -> time I watch her pulling him down the road, in bad weather. Run it past a companion dog for the disabled agency. It doesn't sound right to me either. I am eligable for a wheelchair being just able to walk a bit and an electric one at that. Now my Pit Bull that serves as my companion dog doesn't so much as move to get out of my way as I move about. I spoil this dog something fierce but he's earned it. --- Platinum Xpress/Win/WINServer v3.0pr5* Origin: Try Our Web Based QWK: DOCSPLACE.ORG (1:123/140) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 5030/786 @PATH: 123/140 500 106/2000 633/267 |
