It's called an "alias" because you can put a short one 
in there. Then when you send e-mail you enter the short 
"alias". When the e-mail is sent the real address is placed 
in the "To:" field. 
If you don't want to use aliases or want to see the full 
long address in the To: field, then leave the "alias" blank 
and call up the address book to get the address each time. 
I'd rather type in a short name of an alias, if I send a 
lot of mail to that address.
