subject: USR Sportster `X2-upgradeable`

In our country, it's just recently thatthere are USR Sportster with
"X2-upgradeable" labeled on the box. (I don't think there are any
56k ISPs yet in our country).
My question is: since the modem is just labeled as "X2-upgradeable",
that seems to imply that it doesn't have the "X2 technology" activated
yet (otherwise, it would've said "X2-compatible or X2-supported instead,
won't it?).
How do you "upgrade" or "activate" the "X2 Technology" built into
this Sportster "X2-upgradeable" modem? Does it only need some commands
to be sent to the modem or does the "X2-upgradeable" mean that one needs
to bring the modem to the US Robotics supplier to have it upgrade
the modem?
Sportster's marked with "X2-upgradeable" are new enough not to have
the famous "hanging" bug reported last year, am I right? (any other
newly discovered bugs lately?)
