Mabye you can set the printer itself to a Epson compatability mode. I
had to set my Canon BJ200ex to BJ10 mode to get it to print right.

I think in general enlarging a bitmap image will do more damage. To
enlarge, you fill a bigger space with the same amount of information.

If its a vector image, the computer can make a choice in how to fill
in the "new" information.
