Antonio Inoki submitted Andre via Fujiwara armbar in Japan (Andre's
1st non-countout & non-DQ loss).
Andre lost to UWA Champion El Canek at El Toreo in Mexico in February
1984.
So, while it was rare (and not happened in WWF by the time the hype
for WM III was being built), Andre WAS cleanly beaten before Hogan did
it (both by pin and tapout/submission).
