i don't know about others but i was specifically told (asked??) to use
email for the sending of my mod updates some 10 (i think) years ago... the
only real problem i ran into was the inclusion of the echo rules in the
body of rul update messages and the bot naming the extracted file
incorrectly...

my system sends email mod updates at the same time every month for some 20
or so echos... i receive update responses in a "timely" manner...
the definition of "timely" varies though... generally speaking,
within 12 to 24 hours but some extreme cases have seen a week or longer...

my recent updates near the end of last month were responded to in a day or
so like generally happens...
