G'day Bob! BA> Replying to a message of Steve Asher to Lee Lofaso: SA> Not always ... on the "highway" from Northern Territory to Queensland, SA> they drive down the white centre lines, because the road is too SA> narrow! (Or maybe it is to avoid causing tornadoes!) It's scary when SA> there's a Road Train coming the other way! BA> May I assume that a 'road train' is a tractor pulling three (or BA> more) trailers? In the US, two (40') trailers is pretty much the BA> maximum number but on some highways in some states three is BA> permitted. I don't know the legal definition of "road train", but it certainly is the tractor pulling two or three trailers, & clearly marked as Road Train. More common, and legal on designated routes in cities, are "B Doubles", which are the tractor with two trailers, but with the second trailer hitched above the wheels of the first, much as with the first trailer to the prime mover. (if that makes sense) Cheers, Steve.. ---* Origin: Xaragmata / Adelaide SA telnet://xaragmata.thebbs.org (3:800/432) SEEN-BY: 261/38 633/260 267 285 712/848 800/7 432 896 @PATH: 800/432 633/260 267 |
