Yellowknifer could be a record breaker

Devon Allooloo, who is  11 years old, will likely make it on record
as the youngest person to kill a caribou with a bow, according to
the records chairman of the Pope and Young Club, one of North
America's leading bowhunting and conservation organizations.
Allooloo, who has been hunting ptarmigan and ground squirrel with a
bow since he was five, shot a caribou square in the heart by
Thonokied Lake, which is near Lac de Gras where the BHP Ekati diamond
mine is, while working with his parents at a mining exploration camp
for most of September.

Devon is already an experienced hunter, having harvested 19 caribou
with a rifle in his life.

He used a traditional recurve bow; most hunters use modern compound
bows that keep the arrow drawn while aiming. With a recurve bow
Allooloo had to be ready to shoot as soon as he drew. He said he may
have had some extra luck as the arrow was given to him by Michele
Leveque the first woman to kill a polar bear with a bow.
