>>> John Boone on Black and White
WE> The logical connective
WE> 'or' has two different senses, inclusive or, and exclusive
WE> or. Exclusive P or Q is P or Q but not both P & Q.
JB>
JB> Yep, and I was using the exclusive -OR-.
Logicians use 'xor' to denote exclusive or and 'or' to denote inclusive or.
So when you use or I assume that you mean inclusive or. Note that 'P or P'
but not 'P xor P'. Also note that P xor Q implies P or Q while the reverse
is false.
WE> Hence the expression stereotypical 'black and white' thinking.
JB> Yep, but binary logic is such a case.
Not familiar with that term. Binary data and two value logic are the terms
I'm familiar with. Are you familiar with the distinctions of logic,
schematics, syntactics, semantics?
