| subject: | 2001: A Space Odyssey Valkyrie Re: Coup to kill Hitler |
RW>RN> The only Kubrick film I have in my collection is 2001: A Space RW>RN> Odyssey. RW> I didn't like that one either. I remember seeing it when it first came out in a theater equipped to handle 70mm film and state of the art sound. Some minutes into the movie, a few got up and left. There was a sign-in book in the lobby (apparently Kubrick did this with all of his films) where you could write your thoughts about what you had seen. I thought the FX for a film of that time were outstanding and it captured my imagination; so, essentially that is what I wrote. Especially the part where Bowman gets back into the spaceship without his helmut on. A guy I know in Hollywood who contributes to Leonard Maltin's Movie Guide agreed with my sentiments on 2001, but he thought "2010 was a piece of crap." I disagreed and haven't spoken to him since, but there is much more as to the reasons why. RW> One mans classics are another mans also ran...I consider anything John RW> Ford did as classic, as well as everything John Wayne starred in under RW> Ford's tutelege. The best ever was The Quiet Man. One of those B&W/Color RW> films I was telling Tom about yesterday. My two favorite Wayne films, not that they all aren't, (Exception: The Barbarian and the Geisha) are Rio Grande and Hondo. Hondo was in color and 3-D. I have it here, but can't remember how to make the glasses. (-: RW> I'm kinda like a horse trader, I look at the teeth first. I don't believe you'd get that high up. (-:[ RW> I hate doing the lawn, so I pay this guy named EZ to come by and do it RW> every 3 weeks, 2 if it needs it. He was doing the lawn this morning when RW> I returned from breakfast. I parked in front of my neighbor's driveway RW> since I just had the truck washed, just to run in and out again. By the RW> time I came back out, he was done and gone. My daughter has one of those -- a husband. He can do just about anything and I'm still in terror for the time coming when he runs a dedicated elecrtric line in here so all of my stuff can be run without being dependant on another part of the house. He's also an excellent mechanic, but since we don't agree on something, I've refused to let him touch my car. I think I'm gonna sell it anyway and get my SIL's Merc GM. RW> I see Polaroid every time I turn this one on. I wasn't aware the Polaroid set did that. I wonder if it's some sort of boot strap loader or POST? Whatever it is, it's aggravating! I gave my 25" Sanyo to my x-gf and she gave me a new, smaller one for when I lived in a FEMA trailer. I gave that one to my grandson when I moved here and bought the one I now have. I wish it had SmartSound and I guess you know why. RW>RN> working on something else (Error 23) at the moment, although not as RW>RN> hard as someone else is. RW> Sorry I brought that error up... Don't be. You'd be surprised to learn the extent that Nick is going to to correct that. The new release is patched to take care of the setup problem, but we aren't home free -- yet. I'll know more during the week. Check out the version I'm using. RW> Depends - If I worked as the manager of a g-entity that keeps track RW> of spending and what the spending was for, I'd definately ask... Like the OMB? (-: RW> That's possible. Anything is possible. Regards, Roger ... Gee, Mr. Wizard!
