| subject: | `American` a misnomer |
RW> TW>> To Almost the Whole World. Obviously you have never Googled RW> TW>> Anti-Semitism. RW>And this dumbass, like you, thinks one interpretation is gospel! When in RW>fact, it is merely one amongst many presented by scholars around the RW>world. RW> MG> If *I* made up a word or phrase it would always mean what *I* the RW> MG> creator of it meant by it. RW>Now that's an intelegent statement. When you release such a word to the RW>masses, you will no longer have control over it's meaning. Just like this RW>one. I don't see citizens of the U.S. or elsewhere complain that being called "Americans" is a misnomer. After all, just as Jews aren't the only Semites, USAans aren't the only people who live in America (there are people in North, Central, and South America, all of whom are Americans, but when anyone says "American," people know the word refers to people in the United States, and "America" means the United States, just as "anti-Semite" means anti-Jew. It seems "anti-Semite" is the only not-totally accurate term with which a few folks take issue. --- þ QMPro 1.53 þ ASCII stupid question.... get a stupid ANSI* Origin: Doc's Place BBS Fido Since 1991 docsplace.tzo.com (1:123/140) SEEN-BY: 10/1 3 11/331 34/999 120/228 123/500 128/2 187 140/1 226/0 236/150 SEEN-BY: 249/303 250/306 261/20 38 100 1381 1404 1406 1410 1418 266/1413 SEEN-BY: 280/1027 633/260 267 712/848 800/432 2222/700 2320/100 105 200 SEEN-BY: 5030/1256 @PATH: 123/140 500 261/38 633/260 267 |
