I used to be pretty good, but Arthur Itis and dwindling eyesight have
caused me to be a spectator as far as doing mechanical work is concerned.

That's close to what my Lincoln has.  There are access panels to be removed
from the rocker covers so you can get at the plugs.  Our mistake last year
was not changing the plugs and wires at the same time.  I was so sure (and
I should have known better) that only the wires needed replacing that
that's all I bought.  I had to go back to the store and get the plugs. 
And, you'd better keep a sharp eye at what you're doing else you can easily
screw things up.  No shields that I recall.  Next time this job needs
doing, I'll have to do it myself (X).  (-:
