I used to be pretty good, but Arthur Itis and dwindling eyesight have caused me to be a spectator as far as doing mechanical work is concerned. RW> It's a 4.6L overhead cam V8. Carbon buildup around that RW> shield holds it in place so it comes off when you loosen the plug. Even RW> running some engine cleaner through it before you loosen them doesn't RW> seem to work very well. That's close to what my Lincoln has. There are access panels to be removed from the rocker covers so you can get at the plugs. Our mistake last year was not changing the plugs and wires at the same time. I was so sure (and I should have known better) that only the wires needed replacing that that's all I bought. I had to go back to the store and get the plugs. And, you'd better keep a sharp eye at what you're doing else you can easily screw things up. No shields that I recall. Next time this job needs doing, I'll have to do it myself (X).
