Commonly ? No. Does it happen ? Yes.

(1) The person probably spoke latin.
(2) If you don't speak latin at least it excludes you as the one
speaking.
(3) It reduces the chances of someone suggesting it might have
resulted from some sort of radio reception.

Probably. Not much point talking to you if you don't know what was
said.

The "channel" is usually meant to mean the physical person receiving a
message. The "communicator" will usually tell a person whether they
want their message broadcast to others or not.
