subject: More Canons!

CT> HA! Sorry, that was too easy. The bottom line regarding canon
CT>is to save face. No need to explain a plot conflict away when you can
CT>merely look at the source and declare it "Non-canon" and therefore avoid
CT>the whole issue.
"Explaining a conflict" is also buying into the idea that there
is correct and incorrect Trek. There is no need to "Explain"
conflicts. Pick the one you like and keep stepping.
Many people have accepted "canon" as a starting point for
discussion, but that does not bind anyone! I save no face by saying
that "Mutiny on the Enterprise" is non-canon, I just slide off the
table for the purposes of this discussion. I am not personally
embarrassed by anything in Trek because I am free to choose those
elements that I like and leave the rest.
To call "Canon" a cop out for people who disagree with you is A>
insulting to people who disagree with you and B> perhaps a sign that
you are taking the whole debate a little more personally than perhaps
 you should.
CT> Bad analogy. Would you have a Sicilian stop speaking his dialect
CT>because it was not "canon" Italian? Trek is the same way.
        That's an interesting analogy.
CT> Maybe the whole issue of "canon" vs "non-canon" is
CT>merely the expression
CT>of society's overall failure to get along with each other.
CT>We spend inordinate
CT>amounts of time splitting things up along national, racial,
CT>spiritual, political
CT>and other lines. Always trying to decide which one is better. If that's
th
CT>case, Poor Gene's ashes must be rolling around in that little space
apsule
CT>of his, because all of us have missed his point on a galactic scale.
CT> Christopher
That's taking the whole Canon/non-Canon thing way, way too far.
IMHO. Maybe you should take step back, take a deep breath and start
another discussion. Remember that this is all supposed to be fun.
That last paragraph didn't sound like you are having too much fun
 anymore...
