Need....why does the ownership of a gun, regardless of type, have to be
based on some perceived "need"???
I can carry this arguement to any other purchase you'd care to make. Why
would one "need" to purchase a Mercedes Benz instead of say, a Yugo or Ford
Fiesta? They both get you from point A to point B. And on top of that, most
Mercedes benz models will greatly exceed the speed limit, are gas guzzlers,
etc ad nauseum..maybe we should ban all cars that can exceed the speed limit
and don't get 40 miles to the gallon, after all, exceeding the speed limit,
or at least having the ability to exceed the limit is a very dangerous thing.
We shouldn't trust people with that sort of power, eh?
Why is there a perception that people should only own a gun for shooting
deer? Not all guns are "hunting rifles" and not all guns can be used for
such. I would much rather have a handgun or smaller assault rifle for home
defense, or concealed carry than trying to lug around a Remington 700 BDL all
the time.
As far as I know, part of the reason behind the 2nd Amendment is so that
each and every free man can own firearms, that should the need arise, can be
used in defense of his country (be it from outside invaders or tyrranical
government). If we are to face an invasion, wouldn't you agree that that
invasion is going to be carried out by military forces? Wouldn't it make
sense for the peoples of this country that would need to bear arms against
that invading force have firearms that would be capable of shooting the
ammunition that would be most prevalent (e.g. military calibers)? It would
be very difficult to find off calibers, such as .270, .220 Swift, .257
Roberts or any other sundry "hunting" caliber during war time. It makes
perfect sense that one should be able to use the ammo that would be
available. Do you think that "hunting" type firearms would be affective
in a combat situation? I don't...better than nothing, yes, but effective,
probably not.
And lastly, not to sound obnoxious, but to the point, what business is it of
yours the type of firearms that I own? I don't need to know the type of
sexual aids or toys, or types of jewelry or knick knacks that you or your
wife own, have, use whatever, so why should you be concerned with what types
of guns I own?
