these diesels are comparatively high rpm, generating their maximun
torque around 2600. This leads me to the conclusion that they are a
light duty diesel. I am however installing two, which I believe will
greeatly reduce the operating stress. Furthermore, I chanced on a
little manual in the Vancouver library which gave details on a diesel
conversion on a 30' Egg Harbour which had converted from twin 350
cu.in. diesels to twin 5.7 ltr. GM diesels. The performance and fuel
saving was a great success. As far as my conversion goes, I won't
actually be starting the project until Aug. 97'. The reason for this
is that I use my boat for commercial fishing, and I don't want to
chance not being ready for June's fishing season. Also, to date I have
acquired only one engine. These things are scarcer then hen's teeth,
and when they do become available they are snapped up quickly. The
wrecker where I bought mine tells me that all the diesels they sell go
to marine conversions. And I thought I had a unique idea! Anyway'
right now I'm tinkering with dry exhaust stacks versus marine wet
manifolds. Lots of planning you know.
cheers, Ed
