Hello EARL.

HT>needs. I simply telnet to bbs.sursum-corda.com when I want to go
HT>there.

ET> Well, I tried to sign up on this BBS. I got to a point where it
ET> said it had just two more things to do and I should press Enter. I
ET> did so and it appeared to hang up on me. I waited for quite a
ET> while then gave up and ended the session. Now I can't get
 ET> connected again.

Even though I try to keep a stable system running (BBS is under OS/2, as is
the rest of the system), as fate would have it when you called the ADSL
service went down. Looking at the logs on this end I see where you were
about to enter the DOB on the application when the system reported a socket
error. The router logs also report "loss of link" at the same
time, lasting over 40 minutes. ;-(

ET> I'm going to have to agree with what someone else said here
ET> recently. The problem with Fidonet in today's world is that it is
ET> too hard to use compared with typical GUI systems like Windows and
ET> even Linux with a graphic desktop.

But the sense of community on most BBS networks is *far* better than the
coldness of the web. And there's virtually nothing spam-wise. Most
telnetable BBSes are relatively secure compared to some of the web based
discussion systems, which occasionally get "groped" from e-mail
addresses by snooper programs; you end up with a mailbox full of rubbish
shortly thereafter.

I invite you to try again. Your "account" is still in place. If
you want further details on being able to get your echomail w/o needing to
use the BBS, email me and I'll fill you in!

Best regards,
Marc
