Not always, but it has been standard there for a long while. In fact,
Farenheit originated in Germany and was used for a long time before they
switched to the metric system.

Rockets blow into peaces, no matter what standards are used. The German
WW2 V1 and V2 rockets had a habit of doing that and they used the metric
system to build them.
