Understand your point on the model (same structure, different
atoms). I just thought two people talking to each other, both
"copied" to a new equivalent position an inch left with no break
in the conversation, would mean more than just being two killed
and two imperfect copies generated. Somewhere in a still dense
corner of my imagination, a quiet bell is trying to ring that
there is more to what we are here exploring ......perhaps not?.
In an admitted far fetched scenario for the purpose of
circumstantial exploration, I submit the following scenario-

We telePORT (copyport) a machine to a planet (same structure,
new atoms). We now teleport a structure *mapped* from a human
operator (John I) to the planet (creating John II), retaining
the original John I here. Now on completion of the mission,
do we have any obligation to bring back the copy, John II, as
the process would kill him in the transfer while creating a John
III at this end. I'm not at all sure I'm presenting the case
in a best sequence, as the edges of the "happening" and its
implications are even fuzzy to me. I believe we murdered one
"CREATED" being ??? to save the original and ended up with
two Johns ......yes? ....or we could have left him (John II)
alive on the planet to starve (or continue copyporting care
    packages).

NOTE: With no actual reason to destroy the original, each
entity scanned to another place would increase a population
of multiples .....in effect populating another planet with
duplicates of our own planet selections.

I'm not sure what my inquiry should be. Hope you can help me
out with a seeming rabbit nightmare!!!!

are made up of bent awareness /cc"\ ... Dave
